Featured Plant: Hellebore (Lenten Rose)

Hellebores are one of the earliest signs that spring is on the way. Often blooming in late winter to early spring, these hardy perennials produce elegant, nodding flowers in shades of white, pink, burgundy, and even near-black while most of the garden is still waking up. Hellebores thrive in partial to full shade, making them an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and under trees. Their evergreen foliage provides year-round interest, and once established they are extremely low-maintenance and deer resistant. Because they bloom so early and tolerate cold weather, hellebores are perfect for adding color and life to the garden long before many other plants begin to grow.
